Danish E-Government Experts to Strengthen Cooperation with Korea

A group of Danish officials and IT leaders visited the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Korea on September 20 to know about Korea’s e-government that has been one of the most developed in the world.

Their visit to Korea followed a request from Denmark. Denmark showed its interest earlier in learning about e-government in Korea which is one of the top-ranking countries in the UN E-Government Survey.

The Danish delegation was composed of 20 members, among which were IT leaders from an IT business association and a CEO of an IT company as well as government officials, such as the Deputy Director of the Danish Agency for Digitisation and those from the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment, a public procurement agency, a pension and social welfare agency, and a local government commission.

Their visit to Korea was led by the Seoul office of Innovation Centre Denmark, which is affiliated with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During their meeting at the Ministry of the Interior, Korean officials introduced the Korean government’s 2020 E-Government Framework Programme and some of the best practices in digital government such as data exchange system that makes it easy for government agencies to share administrative information with one another. The Danish delegation presented their Digital Strategy 2016-2020.

The two countries reaffirmed their willingness to share each other’s best practices, enhancing their bilateral cooperation in building a future strategy for digital government.

Director-General Jang Young-hwan for Personal Information Protection Policy at the Ministry of the Interior stated, “I hope Denmark soon becomes an outstanding digital leader in Europe as it works closely together with the Korean government in the years to come.”
